After leaving the nest, the puffin chicks will go to the ocean, fly from one hunting area to another and learn how to hunt.

Puffin babies will spend the next 4-7 years out on the ocean, eating fish, getting better at hunting and finding better places to hunt.

This time is truly important in a puffin's lifetime – they grow up and look for a partner to live with.

The birds on this island have existed for a very long time. Because birds have existed longer than mammals, it is hard to evaluate the amount of time they have been here.

Birds have had more time to adapt and evolve to their surroundings and habitats as well, which means it can be hard to figure out exactly how long they have been here, on Runde.

The puffins have been evolving here, and on the Atlantic Ocean, for over 100 000 years and have specifically adapted to live and feed here. That is also why this island is important to the birds. There is nowhere else quite like it, for them.

What about these? They are big... Are they dangerous?

The Eagles? No, not really. I mean, all of our neighbors are quite nice. Well... as long as there are enough fish for all of us...

One year later...

Although, somehow, I've noticed how the oceans has changed. The waters used to be so rich in fish, but now... it is much harder to hunt, I must tell you...

Oh, there are also these guys –                         , our close relatives. They are quite fun at parties.

These ones here are also our close relatives! They call themselves

Not dangerous for us, but they don't have any sense of humor...

Oh! And don't get me started on the...

Eldre, I meant the fluffy four-legged ones.

Oh! Those are sheep. We don't have to compete for the fish with them. They are pretty chill.
